I grew up loving all extreme sports. I used to skateboard in my teens, and BMX bike as I got
older, I even aggressive skated for a while. There was just something I loved about the freedom
and the ability to express myself through movement and visual style as I went anywhere I wanted
using urban landscapes in new and different ways. Anything curbs, stairs, railings, sidewalks,
were all fair game.
As I got older I became more consumed with my everyday life and schedule, getting to work,
college, etc. and if I had to get anywhere I would drive. I just didn’t have the time to skate or
bicycle anymore. And it was a shame too because not only were those things my hobbies they
were also a form of exercise that kept me outside being active and healthy. I got myself a car and
anywhere I had to be I was driving. At first I would try to still skate or bike with friends on the
weekends but that slowly stopped as well as my friends got older and started to get married and
have kids of their own. Anywhere I wanted to go to I was driving.
Until recently I moved into the city and I had to get rid of my car. It cost too much to have in the
city and the pay off wasn’t good enough. It was hard to find parking, a pain in the ass to find gas
stations to refuel once or twice a week, not to mention gas prices are always rising. I loved taking
public transportation and walking everywhere it’s just that sometimes the subways and buses can
get so crowded and other times when you’re in a hurry you might have to walk as far as fifteen
blocks to find a subway and you might not have time for that.
So I tried breaking out my old skateboard and using it to get around, and I did at first until one
day I was down in Union Square Park and I saw a bunch of kids riding scooters. They weren’t
just riding the scooters they were doing tricks on them too, it looked like a lot of fun. When I
was younger scooters were like bikes for nerds they were never cool. But now I was intrigued
and I wanted to get one and try it out for myself. Not only did it look like a fun and cool mode
of transportation from point A to point B but it was also a new extreme sport for me to try and
master.
So I found a website called Trotinette Freestyle and I bought a new scooter. They had all
different kinds of frames and sizes, with all the parts sold separately too so I could upgrade or
improve parts of it and customize my scooter just like a BMX bike. I ordered the parts I needed
at www.trotinettefreestyle.com and they got them to me very shortly and I was able to put them
all together and have a new scooter to ride around the city.
